Our Panels

The General Insurance (GI) and Investments, Life Insurance and Superannuation (ILIS) areas of FOS use expert panels to make Determinations about particular disputes. Panel members are appointed by the FOS Board on the basis of their objectivity, qualifications, experience and relevant personal qualities.

Each panel that is formed to make a Determination will have three members – a chair (usually an Ombudsman), an industry representative and a consumer representative. Our General Insurance area has three permanent panel members. Our Investments, Life Insurance and Superannuation (ILIS) area has a larger pool of panel members to draw on, because of the great diversity of products and issues covered by the ILIS area.
