Hearing and Speech Impaired Access - National Relay Service
Freecall (within Australia): 1800 555 677 Calling from overseas: +61 7 3815 7799
The National Relay Service (NRS) is the only service of its kind in Australia. It provides specialised telephone access via TTY (telephone typewriter), modems, or re-speaking support. Professionally trained Relay Officers relay conversations between two parties. By typing on a TTY or computer with a modem, people who are deaf or have a hearing or speech impairment can contact anyone, with the assistance of a Relay Officer via the NRS.
The National Relay Service (NRS) is operated by ACE, a national not-for-profit community-based organisation, under contract to the Australian Government. The contract between ACE and the Commonwealth includes strict privacy and confidentiality provisions that protect users of the NRS. The service is funded by a levy paid by all telecommunication carriers. You can obtain more information about the NRS on the ACE website www.aceinfo.net.au.
*Calls charged at local rate from landlines; at the applicable rate for your carrier if calling from a mobile.
