Recent events


We organise or attend hundreds of events every year, to educate our stakeholders about FOS and learn about their needs, and to contribute to policy discussions. Here is a sample of where we have been and what we have done in the past few months.


  • Resolving Customer Complaints Workshop (Sydney, Brisbane and Perth)

This two-day internal dispute resolution (IDR) workshop is one of our most popular training programs. Run in conjunction with Nina Harding Mediation Services, it is designed to enhance the complaint-handling skills of customer-facing staff.   • Shadow Shopper Workshops (Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Hobart)

These workshops, run by the Financial Planning Association in conjunction with ASIC and FOS, addressed the findings of ASIC’s latest shadow shopping study of financial planners. Alison Maynard, Lead Ombudsman – Investments, Life Insurance & Superannuation, gave advice for financial planners based on FOS’s experience with financial planning disputes.

Consumer representatives

  • FOS Forum (Sydney)

This was the inaugural FOS Forum. The FOS Forums are a significant part of our new Consumer Engagement Program. They provide education and training to consumer representatives to improve their understanding of our dispute resolution process.   • Keilor Downs Community Meeting (Melbourne)

This meeting brought together 150 people whose properties had been damaged in the 2011 Christmas Day hailstorms. The meeting was arranged by Keilor MP Natalie Hutchins and was attended by the Insurance Council of Australia, local legal centres and a general insurance expert from FOS, who talked about our dispute resolution process and how we can help to resolve disputes about insurance claims.

  • Consumer Affairs Information Day (Sunbury)

Consumer Affairs Victoria hosted this information day for residents of Sunbury. FOS and several other organisations held stands at the event and answered questions about the services they offer to consumers and how consumers can handle (or avoid) common problems.
